| About Tenugui |
|
|
Tenugui are fabrics made of 100% cotton. They have evolved as
towels in Japan,
where the summers are extremely humid. Their high water absorption, combined with good drying
characteristics, the ability to keep away germs and useage
convenience make them popular in Japan. |
|
| How tenugui are made |
Our tenugui are made in a technique called 'Chusen'. The parts of
the pattern which will be white
are covered with a paste, the cloth is dyed. After that the tenugui
are cut. All our tenugui are
handmade by experienced craftsmen. Because of that, there are
slight variations in length and color.
These variations constitute the 'taste' of real craftsmanship. |
